Why Patients love the Cross Cradle
The Problem to Solve
The first weeks of the Cross Bracing Protocol are the most difficult for a patient due to the non-weight bearing bracing at 90 degrees of flexion.
As a practitioner, you may have noticed that this can cause:
- Skin irritation and indentation from the braces straps anteriorly
- Discomfort, skin depressions and abrasions
- Reduced compliance with bracing
- Reluctance to refer other people with ruptured ACLs
Why Use the Cross Cradle
- Distributing weight over the whole leg, not just where the brace straps are, using a stiff outer shell placed between the straps and the patient
- Interposing a conforming foam to improve comfort
- Adding a heat absorbing inner layer for cooler wearing of the brace
Working with your Patients
The benefits of the Cross Cradle can be easily demonstrated to your patients at the time of first consultation.
- Fit the brace as usual, with it locked at 90 degrees
- Let the patient ambulate with crutches
- Then add the Cross Cradle anteriorly, under the straps of the brace over the skin or undergarment as shown in the image
- Then allow and observe further ambulation.
The patient should notice a significant and conclusive improvement in comfort.
